26 years ago, Tupac shot cops on Halloween night.

Early on Sunday morning, October 31, 25 years ago in Atlanta, two off-duty white officers who were also brothers, Mark and Scott Whitwell, were crossing the street with their wives after a celebration. Atlanta police said they were nearly hit by two cars as they crossed the street. One of these cars was Tupac Shakur.
Pac was in town for a show at the local Clark Atlanta University and returned to the Sheraton Hotel that night. When the cars almost hit the off-duty cops, there was a fight and Tupac ended up shooting both cops, one on the buttocks and one on the abdomen. He was arrested at his hotel shortly afterwards, charged with aggravated assault, but was released the next day.
After the incident, witnesses said it was actually one of the officers who shot Pac first. Whitwell was eventually accused of shooting Tupac and lying to the police. In October 1995, Fulton County District Attorney Louis Slaton dropped the charges against Makaveli, with Assistant District Attorney Charles Hadaway saying Pac was acting in self-defense. He shot two white police officers and was scandal-free.
Another version of the story came to light later, in which Pac had witnessed the police chasing a black man in the street. Tupac allegedly intervened and asked what the cops were doing, but upon returning to the car, one of them allegedly broke a window of the vehicle. That's when Pac supposedly left, dropped to his knees and started firing.
